Recorded live on video November 11, 2023.
This week the Good Guys grab their shovels and head straight down to the center of the Earth. Book club is in session with Ingersoll Lockwood's 1890s oddity The Marvelous Underground Journey of Baron Trump, a story so suspiciously on-the-nose that we have to ask whether it was really written back then or slipped into the zeitgeist later. Hollow Earth, Agartha, the races living below our feet, and the concave Earth theory where we're all living inside the ball all get their turn.
From there the rabbit hole gets deeper, literally. We dig into Mel's Hole, the supposedly bottomless pit that late-night radio couldn't stop talking about, the Green Children of Woolpit, a glow-in-the-dark lab monkey, and float tanks, which somehow leads to Stranger Things, Eleven, and whether orcas at SeaWorld are being kept in their own little worlds within a world. Throw in a secret website tied to the US debt clock and a 52-day countdown, and you've got a perfectly normal Saturday night.
Along the way there's bodybuilding prep, astrology signs you should never spill coffee on, the hundredth-monkey idea, cursed Styrofoam, and a passionate group phobia of wooden ice cream spoons. Tinfoil recommended, but not required.
